HPSInsight/CivicScience Survey of Consumer Attitudes
It’s June 1 – the two year anniversary of the end of the recession as called by the National Bureau of Economic Research’s Business Cycle Dating Committee. To mark the occasion, we added a simple question to our regular consumer sentiment survey rotation: “Is the U.S. economy still in a recession?” The results were fairly dramatic: two years after the recession officially ended, 2/3 of Americans feel we’re still in recession, and another 29% say the recession ended, but it still feels like we’re in a recession. Here are the results:
Is the U.S. economy still in a recession?
Yes: 66%
It ended, but still feels like a recession: 29%
No, the recession ended in 2009: 5%Margin +/- 2%.
