Daniel Son, Director

Daniel Son is a communications professional specializing in developing and executing media campaigns at the local, regional and national level. A proven team player and excellent writer, Daniel has broad experience forming, pitching and defending messages through both traditional and new media.

As a veteran of Capitol Hill, Daniel is comfortable with managing all aspects of messaging around a wide range of complex issues and media outreach. Before joining Hamilton Place Strategies, he was Communications Director for Congressman Sean P. Duffy (WI-07) and served as Duffy’s spokesman on all issues, primarily dealing with the budget and Duffy’s work on the House Financial Services Committee.

Prior to joining Congressman Duffy’s staff, Daniel was Communications Director for Congressman Charles K. Djou (HI-01). Daniel was indispensable in establishing Djou, a historic special election winner, as an effective Representative for the state of Hawaii. Daniel helped to build and implement an aggressive media strategy that promoted Djou’s relentless efforts on trade, budget and military issues through his work on the Armed Services Committee and Budget Committee. Daniel also played a key role on Congressman Djou’s campaign, serving as a key advisor on communications and grassroots efforts, while helping to build local and national coalitions.

Daniel cut his teeth in the press shop of Congressman Mike Pence (IN-06), who, as a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, was Ranking Member of the Middle East Subcommittee at the height of the Iraq War surge. Daniel was well-regarded as a strong writer and team player, eventually rising to become Pence’s press secretary. In addition to creating, maintaining, and expanding Pence’s robust digital following, Daniel was the primary press contact for Hoosier media, ensuring that Pence’s profile in Indiana remained strong, even as Pence’s national stature grew.

A native of Charlottesville, VA, Daniel graduated from James Madison University with degrees in Political Science and Sociology and is currently pursuing an MBA from the University of Maryland. He lives in Alexandria with his wife Kate, daughter Gigi and their puppy Moose. You can follow him on Twitter @dsson.
