French President François Hollande’s approval rating dropped to 12 percent last week, the lowest of any French president on record, largely due to his inability to turn the French economy around. Despite weathering the great recession better than many of its competitors, France’s economy has stagnated since the recession with flat GDP growth and rising unemployment. Without reform, French businesses continue to face a comparatively higher regulatory burden than other global economies.
